With weeds eliminated, owners and passersby can enjoy the intrigue of the planting. I removed the landscape fabric. Fabric quickly becomes clogged with soil particles and weeds grow right on top. Also, fabric restricts the water and air exchange in the soil. A layer of carboard topped with a couple of inches of mulch will suppress weeds and allow for air and water flow which will improve the health of the soil and thus the plants.
